Owned and operated by Shannon Sawyer, a 5th generation daughter of Provincetown, the unique space features paintings, pottery, photographs, jewelry, unique gifts, nautical treasure and more from a collection of local artists.

“Our goal is to represent Provincetown through the amazing work of local artists who carry on the traditions of this community.” said Sawyer. The small but endearing space offers works from the owner as well as pieces from noted craftspeople including Provincetown artist Gail Browne and master woodcarver Mike Orbe.

The property itself is an icon of Provincetown. Originally built in 1860, it’s been home to family businesses for generations. Sawyer’s great-grandfather ran his barbershop there and also sold eggs and poultry from the family farm that once thrived on the grounds. There may even have been a little business transacted with products from a home still during the days of prohibition!

Now Sawyer has taken the next step with Saltwater Serpent. The offerings are an eclectic collection of treasures that pay tribute to the artistic traditions of Provincetown influenced by the nautical history of Cape Cod. Be sure to check out the sweet little spot on Commercial Street!
