Annual Summer Fair Set for St. Mary’s of the Harbor Episcopal Church
PROVINCETOWN, MA — St. Mary of the Harbor Episcopal Church (SMOTH) will hold its annual “Summer Fair” on Saturday, August 1, 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM, rain or shine. SMOTH is located at 517 Commercial St. in Provincetown’s East End.
“This summer, we can truly call it a ‘country fair,’ as it will include many homegrown items you may not find elsewhere on the Outer Cape,” said Rev. Brian Raiche, SMOTH’s pastor. This popular event now includes arts-and-crafts vendors with pottery, traditional leather goods, miniature paintings, calendars, sea-glass art and jewelry made of fish leather. There will also be a silent auction, raffle prizes, vintage jewelry, lunch service, home-baked goods and—of particular appeal to the young and young-at-heart— fresh-spun cotton candy.
Bargain hunters can expect to find attractive deals in the silent auction. Besides items donated by local businesses, it will feature room accommodations paired with restaurant gift certificates, Cape Air tickets and many one-of-a-kind experiences. They will include deck parties with beautiful views, a massage by an experienced therapist, a personal tour of the PAAM galleries and an Edward Hopper illustrated lecture at your home, as well as a lecture for your group on the Pilgrim impact on Provincetown today.
In previous years, auction items included such services as mending, hemming and sewing buttons for two people; repair of a treasured quilt or special linens; and the baking of and a made-to-order carrot cake. The event takes place in SMOTH’s church hall and spills onto the bayfront church yard, both with commanding water views. “Besides the opportunity to mingle with old and new friends, the fair helps us raise funds for our ongoing charitable outreach work and that of other local groups,” said Raiche.
