Located forty miles out to sea at the tip of Cape Cod, Provincetown is one of the world’s natural deep water harbors ~ a refuge for boats of all sizes, large and deep enough to welcome cruise ships. Provincetown has always taken its life from the sea, but it’s the harbor which has defined our history (Pilgrims First Landing – 1620), our Portuguese fishing heritage and reputation as a world class tourist destination.
Ferry Terminal at the MacMillan Pier
MacMillan Pier is Provincetown’s major transportation hub ~ Bay State Cruise Co., Boston Harbor Cruises and Captain John Boats Fast Ferry bring tens of thousands of people here seasonally, and excursions of all types depart daily to explore the Harbor, the National Seashore and Stellwagen National Marine Sanctuary.
Whales played an important part in Provincetown’s economy in the 19th century and this tradition is carried on today as thousands of whalewatchers depart from Provincetown each year to observe these now endangered mammals in their natural habitat.
Don’t miss our big attraction: whale watching boats depart from MacMillan Pier and from next door Provincetown Marina (old Fisherman’s Wharf)
