Camp Lightbulb

 Photo Gallery  Kid Friendly

Camp Lightbulb is a Summer Camp for LGBTQ+ teens. Puck Markham created Camp Lightbulb in 2011 as one of the first camps for LGBTQ+ youth in the nation. A core component of his vision was the creation of a Rainbow Squad: a group of validated and confident LGBTQ+ youth who support and have fun with one another.

Spaces like Camp Lightbulb are rare but critically important to the healthy development of queer youth. We chose Provincetown as our primary home because of the town’s vibrant LGBTQ+ community that has sustained for generations and have since expanded to New York City and Los Angeles. We intentionally host our camps in LGBTQ+-inclusive communities so that campers see the beauty of a community unapologetically flying free and can manifest a sense of pride within themselves.

CARE for the Cape and Islands

 Open Year Round

CARE for the Cape & Islands™ (CARE) was founded in 2012 to encourage, support, and create opportunities for visitors to donate their “time, talent, and treasure” to help preserve and protect the very things they travel here to see and enjoy: exquisite natural beauty, plant and wildlife habitats, Cape & Islands culture and history.

Ultimately, CARE, which stands for Creating A Responsible Environment, seeks to tap travelers’ growing interest in and support of eco-tourism and green-travel, and their philanthropic inclinations to help ensure the long-term sustainability of the Cape & Islands as a unique travel destination and national treasure.

Working with travel industry businesses, CARE helps to educate the public about the region’s fragile environment, create opportunities for travelers to contribute to local efforts that assist with the long-term environmental conservation and cultural heritage preservation, deepen their connection to the destination, and enhance the visitor experience.

Information about specific projects and how to get involved may be found the CARE website and Facebook page.

Center for Coastal Studies Provincetown

For over 40 years, the Center for Coastal Studies has served as Provincetown’s hometown organization for coastal and marine environmental awareness, research, and education, yet enjoys an international reputation for its extensive research on the humpback whale that is the basis of the town’s whale watching industry, and the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale that visits our waters January-May.

The Center is a pioneer in marine animal disentanglement, regional water quality monitoring, high resolution seafloor mapping, seal and fisheries research, marine debris and marine plastics studies, and some of the earliest and ongoing studies of land-sea interaction.

The Center’s newly renovated Hiebert Marine Laboratory is open year-round and features the only large whale skeleton on Cape Cod, that of Spinnaker, a 37-foot humpback whale who died of entanglement in 2015, as well as specialty books on marine science for sale. Community Development Partnership

 Open Year Round  Parking

The Community Development Partnership supports an array of programs that strengthen our Lower Cape community, providing greater opportunities for all who live here to thrive.

Our work starts with creating affordable homes—so essential to a healthy economy, but a real challenge in communities like ours where seasonal and vacation dynamics drive the market beyond the reach of many who live and work locally all year round.

We also work to launch entrepreneurs and strengthen local businesses. We believe a vibrant future depends on sustaining traditional industries and inspiring new ones—especially when they’re based on renewable natural resources such as fishing, farming, art and hospitality.

In all that we do, we aim to protect the natural environment around us—preserving the character and sustaining the future of this special place we call home.

Dream Day on Cape Cod

 Kid Friendly

Dream Day on Cape Cod is a non-profit organization based in Brewster, Massachusetts, dedicated to bringing respite into the lives of children with serious and/or life-threatening illnesses and their families.

For 28 years, Dream Day has helped hundreds of these families disconnect from the daily struggles of hospital and doctors’ visits and round-the clock care to reconnect with one another and to connect with others who understand and accept what they have been going through at its Camp Nan-Ke-Rafe, a 31-acre facility located adjacent to Nickerson State Park.

Each summer we operate eight sessions of family camp – bringing families together for a week of fun, family, and respite. Our hope is that families have the chance to create loving, lasting memories that transcend illness and struggle.

We also host off-season family events, including an annual Holiday Weekend in December.

All of our programs are at no cost to the family.
